The Asbestos Testing Process
Once you have contacted us, concerned you may have asbestos in your home, you have two options. Take the sample yourself and bring it to us to have it tested (we don’t recommend this as we don’t advocate untrained persons handling asbestos containing materials) or, have us come to you – where we will safely collect samples and take them away for asbestos testing.
Expert Site Inspection
We will come to your home and assess the areas you are concerned about. We can quickly assess your home and point out areas that are likely to have asbestos containing products in them. We can take one sample or as many as required. Where ever possible this is done out of site (from power point holes, fan holes etc.) so there is the minimum visible disruption to your home. Whilst onsite we will measure up any suspected asbestos containing materials so we can prepare a free quote for removal and disposal if the sample tests positive for asbestos fibres.
Quick Asbestos Test Results
Depending on the type of product being sampled the results can be back as quick as 3 days. If the sample is urgent we can turn some tests around in just 24 hours for an additional fee. Some products such as asbestos containing vinyl floor tiles can take longer due to the material needing to be “broken down” in the lab.
The Only Definitive Way To Know If Asbestos Is Present
Despite many “old wives tales” about detection of asbestos, the only definitive way to ensure the presence of asbestos in materials is to literally see the fibres under a microscope.
Once we have the result we will notify you by telephone, once the report is written up this will be sent to you via email.

Studies show that these products, if left undisturbed, may not present a significant health risk provided the material is in reasonable condition. If the asbestos fibres remain firmly bound in a solid matrix, you may not need to remove the asbestos-containing product.
Even weathered asbestos roofing may not release many airborne fibres unless the material is disturbed or handled in a way that promotes the release of fibres. Health problems usually occur when people are unaware of the hazards of working with asbestos-containing products. The important point is to always work so there is minimal release of dust or small particles from the asbestos containing material.
Asbestos becomes a health risk when large amounts of asbestos fibres are released into the air and inhaled. People generally start to consider removing the asbestos when they want to do have work done on their home and they are told by the electrician or plumber etc that they aren’t going near the job until the asbestos is removed! The problem with waiting until this happens is that the work you want done will be delayed until the removal process can begin, as government approval is required for all asbestos work over 10 metres square it can take days to get the paperwork processed and that can be costly if you’ve got tradesman charging you for the downtime!
